My favourite guitarists of 2022
I always love discovering guitarists on social media whenever I need a bit of inspiration. There are so many amazing players out there with unique approaches to playing easily found on youtube, tik tok and instagram.
When we learn guitar, it's easy to get stuck in a rut, playing the same things over and over again. This can lead to frustration and a lack of motivation. By discovering new guitarists, we can expand our horizons and get inspired to try new things. We might hear a new technique, a different way of phrasing, or a fresh approach to chord progressions that we've never considered before. This can help us break out of our plateau and take our playing to the next level.
Here are some of my favourite players I discovered in 2022.
Ichika Nito
Ichika has some of the best right handed tapping chops I’ve ever seen. When I first learnt to tap it was non other than Eddie Van Halen’s lightening fast famous solo in Eruption. However it is players like Ichika who demonstrate how you can use tapping to played enhances chords and melodies across the guitar where you would usually require 2 individual players. His chord voicing’s are extremely melodic
This is one of my favourite pieces of his. Enjoy. .
Nathaniel Murphy
Nathaniel Murphy AKA zeppelinbarnatra is one of the most well rounded guitarists I have seen on instagram. The way he combines chords, melodies and percussive techniques across a range of styles is truly inspiring. He also demos a variety of awesome guitars in his videos. There is never a dull moment on his instagram page.
Giacomo Turra
This guy is probably the master of funk. He has a knack for making the most intricate and technical passages sound incredibly groovy and accessible. His tone is so smooth even with the dryest of sounds effect wise, which means there isn’t much room for error or weakness. Every video he uploads is an absolute treat and I have found his style of lead guitar very helpful to breaking out of playing the same old scale passages.
